Building a home
Im lereaning how to have safety embroided in my veins
Im relearning how to let go of the knives aimed at my door.
Im relearning how not every loud sounds ends up as a catastrophe.
Im building a home where the doors don't get slammed autamically,
Even if they do apologises follow
Im building a home for myself where yelling doesn't occur on a daily basis.
Where love can be found in every corner,
Not just the one you have to scratch and cape.
Where the walls can be painted with the brightest of oranges,
Because joy can be expressed without feeling judged
Where you can stay in after a hard week ,
Because it is safe to sleep in and just rest
Where people don't come out of their room carrying hand grenedes
Where you don't have to read their faces to determine if it is safe to come home after school
Where the dinner table is not a war zone
Im building a home where after boundaries respect follows
Where apologises go both ways.
Where hugs aren't something you steal
Im building a home that echoes safeness
And where my loved ones are welcomed in.
