For adult children whose childhood hurt
I'm sorry, that you are still doing the work,
And learning when to put your health first,
And that sometimes you can only love people from a distance.
Because trauma will cling,
Like a rope around your neck,
And cut you open, if you go too close.
But you must let go now, for safeness you deserve,
As tempting it is to look away from the past,
Because did it ever truly happen if you erase any reminder of the past.
The work must be done.
And as hard it is, you must break the generational curse,
I'm sure they meant well, but they hurt you.
And as your still doing the work,
Casualties must be taken,
And you mean well as you learn, meaning well still causes the hurt.
There is no point in denying abuse, not any longer,
Because acceptance is key to the cage,
You mustn't serve a sentence that wasn't meant for you.
Suffering happened without your permission,
Terror must be swept away,
The least you can do is free yourself from the chains.
Therapy,
Mistakes,
Honesty.
Because you are always a child until you leave home,
And the house that raised you still won't leave you alone
But the children who grew up before they were grown are kindest and toughest people on earth.
And you feel that you have never been safe on this earth,
And maybe you never been,
And maybe you haven't been told since your birth,
To adult children whose childhood hurt,
It wasn't your fault,
And you are safer alone.
